Philip E. Foster (1938 - ) Abstract Mixed Media Artwork.

Mr. Foster received a B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1960, a Ph.D. from Yale University in 1974, and a J.D. from Columbia University in 1977. He has published and taught Art History at the college level and practiced and taught law at the graduate student level. As an undergraduate, Mr. Foster took courses in ceramics and sculpture, and later, in the 1990’s, occasional courses at the Art Students League. In 2004 he was introduced to Buddhist calligraphy by Barbara Bash, in 2008 to 2014 went studied Japanese calligraphy with Tsuyoshi Takemori, and then studio art in 2013 to 2014 at the National Academy School of Fine Art, New York City under Maurizio Pellegrin. Mr. Foster also participated in the Collage Workshop at the Drawing Center in New York City in 2016
His Traditional and imaginary calligraphic work was shown at the New York Shodo Society from 2010-2015, the World Calligraphy Biennale in South Korea in 2013, and the Hamilton street Gallery in Bound Brook, New Jersey, He created two installations at the Ionian Center in Greece in 2017, and have a crafted piece in the current Art Students League show. Mr. Foster's abstract paintings were shown in group shows at the National Academy in 2013 and 2014, Crickets & Koi in Rosendale, New York in 2015, and Greenpoint Open Studios, Bushwick Open Studios and The Red House in New York City, in 2016. He had a solo exhibition at the Gruss Center of Visual Arts, in Lawrenceville, New Jersey in 2015, reviewed in The Times of Trenton, and another at the Crowell Gallery in Newfane, Vermont in June, 2017, reviewed in the Brattleboro Reformer. Some abstract works were published online in 2013 at www.thenewpostliterate.blogspot.com and his dance drawings were published in 2015 in The Contact Quarterly.
